Social Events Update
Most of POZabilities’ events will offer an opportunity for socialization. In order to combat isolation and loneliness we also program specific events on a periodic basis to offer folks an opportunity to gather together for holidays together or to share new experiences. These may involve a communal meal, travel to a museum or other locale or celebrate a significant event. Here are a few of the social events from 2024:
Petersen Auto Museum
In April, the group boarded a bus for Los Angeles to visit the Petersen Auto Museum. An amazing collection of automotive history, from vehicles made famous in TV and movies to rare models and those owned by Hollywood celebrities. We also took the opportunity to stroll through the La Brea tar pit park and LA Art Museum grounds. We finished up the day with lunch at Canter’s Deli.
Holiday Potluck Dinners
On Thanksgiving and Christmas Day we gathered at a local condo community room to celebrate the holidays together. POZabilities provided turkeys, hams and roast beef for the group to take home and prepare, along with a myriad of side dishes and desserts prepared by the amazing chefs in the group. This is a longstanding tradition that will continue to provide a place for folks to gather together to celebrate the holidays.
Whale Watching
An adventurous group decided to go and meet the dolphins and Blue whales of the coast of San Diego last April. This 3 hour tour is one we all returned from, although more than a few may have turned a lovely shade of green. This is one we will certainly do again!
Palm Springs Picnic
This past November a group of folks from POZabilities, FOG and Christie’s Place boarded a bus to have a picnic lunch with the Let’s Kick Ass Palm Springs group. This group has a similar mission to POZabilities and we wanted to bring the groups together to share experiences, as well as have a bit of time to explore what Palm Springs has to offer - other than a beautiful day! Based on the success of the event the Palm Springs group intends to visit us in San Diego is 2025!

Flamingle, a fundraiser for POZabilities by Terry Summers, themed around the wonderful pink critters!
Jerry and John’s birthday and Retirement Party, celebrating their birthdays and Jerry’s retirement from POZabilities.
Brad Truax Awards. POZabilities won last years awards so Jerry Turner presented this years award for outstanding service to the San Diego HIV community
We will continue to celebrate the people, places and events of interest or important to the HIV+ community in San Diego!
