Dr. Darcy A. Wooten, MD
Dr. Deiss is a physician at UC San Diego Health's Owen Clinic, one of the nation's outstanding primary care centers for people with HIV.
Darcy A. Wooten, MD, MS, is an infectious disease specialist who diagnoses and treats diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. These include hepatitis viruses, tuberculosis, influenza, and HIV/AIDS, among others.
Dr. Wooten provides primary care for adults with HIV and specialized care and treatment for patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV). She also has expertise in general infectious diseases, including infections of the sinuses, heart, brain, lungs, gastrointestinal system, urinary tract, pelvic organs, and bones. Dr. Wooten's research interests include medical education and problem-based learning, HIV and HCV screening, and quality improvement to enhance care delivery to HIV-infected patients.
As an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Wooten is active in teaching medical students and residents, and lectures on topics in infectious disease, antibiotics and HIV.
She has been published in numerous medical journals, including Journal of Hospital Medicine, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, and Transplant Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Wooten earned her medical degree and completed her internal medicine residency from University of California, San Francisco. She earned her master's degree from UC Berkeley in Health and Medical Sciences. Dr. Wooten completed her infectious diseases fellowship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. During her fellowship, Dr. Wooten was awarded fellow of the year and was involved in several hospital committees. She is board certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Wooten serves on the Infection Control Committee and the Infectious Diseases Division Clinical Competency Committee at UC San Diego Medical Center. She is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of American and Society of General Internal Medicine.
